Mis Cotos — Support

Mis Cotos is an iPhone and iPad app to manage hunting grounds: mark stands on a map, group them into zones, log hunting days with harvest records and sightings, measure distances, check the wind, use topographic maps without coverage, and export to PDF, KML or CSV.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the app without coverage?

Yes. Your hunting grounds, stands, hunting days and photos are always on your device. To have the topographic map without coverage, open the hunting ground’s “···” menu > “Offline Map” > “Download map of this area” before heading out. The aerial (satellite) map cannot be downloaded. The wind does need a connection.

How do I back up my data?

In “Settings” > “Backup” you can back up now or turn on the automatic weekly backup. It is saved in your iCloud Drive, in the “Mis Cotos” folder. To recover a hunting ground, use “Restore a backup”: it always creates a new hunting ground and never replaces an existing one. You need to be signed in to iCloud.

How do I move a hunting ground to another device or to someone else?

From the hunting ground’s “···” menu choose “Export hunting ground”. A .cotoexport file is created that you can send by AirDrop, Mail, Messages or Files. Whoever receives it opens it with Mis Cotos, or from “My Hunting Grounds” with the “+” button.

How do I load the hunting ground boundary or a stand’s access route?

The boundary is loaded from a GPX file in the “···” menu > “Hunting Ground Boundary”. The access route is added on the stand’s page, under “Access Route”, on foot and by car, also with a GPX file.

How do I change the topographic map?

In “Settings” > “Topographic Map” > “Country” you pick the official map: Spain (MTN25), France (IGN), Switzerland (swisstopo), Norway (Kartverket), USA (USGS), Germany (TopPlusOpen) or OpenTopoMap for any other country.

How do I get an end-of-season list?

In the hunting ground’s “···” menu choose “Season summary”. Set the date range, the format (PDF, or CSV which opens in Excel) and what to include.

The wind does not show up.

The wind is looked up from Apple Weather and needs an internet connection. Check your connection; a stand’s wind does not need your location.

I cannot see the “Mis Cotos” folder in the Files app.

It is created when you make the first backup. Check that iCloud Drive is turned on for Mis Cotos in Settings > your name > iCloud.

I deleted a hunting ground by mistake.

If you have an iCloud backup, restore it from “Settings” > “Backup” > “Restore a backup”. Without a backup it cannot be recovered, because the data lives only on your device.
